Job Description Summary

The Senior Counsel, Procurement will proactively support C&W’s procurement operations in the U. S. and globally, and foster a collaborative culture. This position reports to the Associate General Counsel-Procurement.
The successful candidate for this position will join a lean, dynamic legal team with direct responsibility for proactively supporting C&W’s corporate and commercial client procurement operations to deliver best in class commercial contracts and related advice. This position may also include providing ad hoc assistance on special projects as they arise. Chicago location preference.

Job Description

Essential Job Duties:

  • Analyze, draft, negotiate and finalize a broad range of commercial contracts supporting operations in the U.S. and globally.
  • Lead contract dispute management and resolution.
  • Analyze and mitigate complex contractual risk, while increasing efficiency and consistency in contracting.
  • Advise and counsel internal clients with respect to the policies and the legal implications of proposed transactions; maintain regular, open communication and good working relationships with procurement category leads and internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate to share best practices, implement risk management strategies, craft negotiation strategy, and follow corporate directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist AGC-Procurement to develop contract templates and training for internal clients.
  • Assist AGC-Procurement with global procurement initiatives; strategize and collaborate with internal client and procurement leadership.
  • Support the contract strategy process through the entire contract lifecycle from drafting and negotiation to compliance and resolution.
  • Partnering cross-functionally globally with stakeholders in business and legal teams to drive global contract excellence and compliance.
  • Demonstrate the ability and willingness to work under time-sensitive deadlines and be productive in fast-paced environments with multiple competing priorities.
  • Research, analyze and keep current on legal issues and laws, legislation, regulations, and court decisions affecting commercial contracting, the real estate industry and real estate service providers.
  • Perform other related duties as required or requested.

Competencies:

  • 9+ years of commercial contracting experience; combination of private practice and in-house experience preferred
  • Must be proactive, resourceful, and execution-oriented with demonstrated history of problem-solving and executing independently
  • Excellent business judgment with the ability to provide sound legal advice and drafting which reflect a clear understanding of Cushman’s overall business objectives and appropriate management of risk
  • Deep knowledge of general corporate operational issues, risks and commercial contracting
  • Strategic problem solver with strong negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with track record of building strong relationships with business leaders, and a commitment to professionalism and integrity
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize, coordinate and satisfy numerous competing demands
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Juris Doctorate degree required
  • Bar admission in good standing
