Assistant Community Manager – Student Living
Supervises the Resident Assistants and Graduate Assistant staff, oversees programming and educational efforts, creates community among residents through a positive residential experience, participates in crisis and emergency response, advises, and grows the Hornet Commons housing program.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Essential Responsibilities:
- Trains, supervises, and evaluates the Resident Assistant staff in all areas of the position including, but not limited to, crisis/emergency response, programming, community development, and conflict management.
- Oversees the supervision of the graduate assistance for Hornet Commons.
- The Residence Life Manager will conduct or attend the following meetings:
- Resident Assistant 1:1 meeting: weekly
- Resident Assistant staff meetings: weekly
- Graduate Assistant 1:1 meeting: weekly
- Tracks and appropriately uses the programming budget to provide experiences and opportunities for students.
- Responsible for assisting in conducting move-in and move-out processes and procedures, including preparation of move-in packets, room inspections, and logging damages, as well as oversight of the Resident Assistant staff in conducting these tasks.
- Provides crisis and emergency coverage on a rotating basis including answering calls, troubleshooting incidents, and responding to campus after hours as appropriate.
- Mediates conflicts between residents, enforces all community policies, the terms of the lease, as well as the Sac State Code of Student Conduct. The Residence Life Manager will appropriately escalate concerns to Hornet Commons and/or Student Affairs.
- Maintains effective working relationships with the Resident Assistant Staff, Hornet Commons professional staff, University Housing Services, Student Affairs, University Police, and other college offices.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to comprehend and complete legal documents, sell and explain housing features, and answer questions about the community’s operation. Demonstrated proficiency in Internet, word processing, spreadsheet, and database management programs to complete required reports and employment documents. Strong proficiency in using property management software (preferably Yardi and/or One Site). Demonstrated mathematical skills necessary to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, decimals, and fractions, and calculate percent in order to complete financial records, budgets, and other fiscal reporting information. Demonstrated understanding of community operations and lease terms and lease enforcement, including collections. Employment history that demonstrates the application of community management, sales, marketing, and customer service background sufficient to assist in managing the day-to-day operation of an apartment community, resolve customer complaints and issues, complete financial records, documents, and reports, increase sales revenues, and coordinate the work of a team.
Organizational Responsibilities:
Follows established policies and procedures by monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and operational processes related to community operations, and reporting violations or infractions to appropriate individual(s). Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Company, community, and departmental policies, procedures, and standards by immediately reporting any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, employee/visitor/resident injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to appropriate individual(s). Identifies areas for improvement and offers suggestions to improve the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of the community. Keeps abreast of new trends and changes in the industry and area(s) of responsibility by attending internal and external training classes, apartment association meetings, and other events, and accessing other information sources.
Other Responsibilities:
Assist and/or support leasing and marketing efforts. Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

The salary range for this position is $59,000 – $72,100
The base compensation rate will vary based on education, experience, skills, and geographic location, as applicable.

Depending on the position offered, regular full-time and part-time team members may be eligible to participate in a bonus program in addition to their salary. Team members may also participate in the 401k plan, once eligible. Regular, full-time team members are offered a range of medical, financial, and other benefits from which to choose.
For Union and Prevailing Wage roles compensation and benefits may vary from the listed information above due to Collective Bargaining Agreements and/or local governing authority.
