Accountant

This job is responsible for the accounting function for a high-net worth individual using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information, reconcile financial statements, prepare general and standard journal entries, assist in processing payroll, assist in budget development, and prepare standard accounting and financial reports for management. This role is also responsible for administrative tasks associated with the financial side of the family office. Fundamental skills required for this role: proficient in accounting, attention to detail, accuracy, organization, ability to work independently, problem solving, confidentiality, and advanced excel capabilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the management of day-to-day cash transactions, including but not limited to daily oversight of bank accounts, entering transactions into QuickBooks on a timely basis, managing payables and bi-weekly check runs, preparing wire transactions, and completing bank reconciliations.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information in preparation for entry into various financial statements and accounting reports and makes appropriate journal entries for recording in the general ledger by checking calculations, reviewing basis for figures, and balancing and reconciling figures.
  • Perform monthly payroll processes for 5 employees, file quarterly unemployment and state withholding returns, and prepare annual W2s and 1099s.
  • Assist in maintaining tax reserve account, tracking of tax notices, compiling information for annual gift tax returns, and acting as a liaison to our external tax team as needed.
  • Assist in the compilation of insurance policies and an annual insurance review.
  • Assist in the compilation of data used in the annual budgeting process.
  • Communicates with team members, key business managers, and others to answer questions, provide support, and ensure timely completion of accounting processes for on-time reporting.
  • Completes various human resources, financial, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • 3+ year employment history that demonstrates the application and usage of an accounting and financial background sufficient to perform the accounting roles assigned, analyze financial data, and prepare financial reports in accordance with accounting, finance, budgeting, and cost control principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
  • Experience in accounting and financial statement compilation.
  • A combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the application and usage of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate effectively to prepare and explain financial data to internal and external customers.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet (Excel), accounting software (QuickBooks), and database management programs in order to handle large data volume.

Depending on the position offered, regular full-time and part-time team members may be eligible to participate in a bonus program in addition to their base salary.
